Twitter suffered a Denial Of Service Attack today (you can read what I think about it here).

I have been following the flow of information, coming from Venezuela very closely and I was somehow worried that, after Twitter was back, even if the Tweets started to come in, there weren’t coming enough.

Then I spotted two or 3 Tweets of people complaining about that ubertwitter was still not working.

Apparently ubertwitter is the application of choice in Venezuela to Tweet from a mobile phone.

But there are other free applications that you can use, in Venezuela and everywhere else.

Exclusive for the BlackBerry: TwitterBerry

Apps that work in several mobiles including the BlackBerry:

TinyTwitter; Twibble; Snaptu; Tweets60

So now you have no more excuses to not be Tweeting all the events that you see! Remember to take pictures even if you don’t upload them immediately. Better later than never!

Recent and ongoing events,  in Venezuela, regarding the crackdown on Radio Stations that are critic to the the Chávez’s Regime have got me thinking about what strategies, should be known by all involved, in order to get a message across using Twitter.

Twitter is full of Spammers. In the last hour I received up to 21 notifications telling me I had new followers. 17 of those were spammers, 3 of those legitimate accounts and the last one was @SookieBontemps that mentioned my blog post regarding True Blood.

(If you are new to this blog I will tell you one important  thing: I like to have a clean followers list. I have declared a war on spammers since my account was wrongfully suspended. I also call them out on Twitter before blocking them using the #nomercy hashtag. @ShellyKramer is doing it as well. If you don’t follow her, you should)

That said here is a crash course on how to identify the new Spam accounts showing up on Twitter.

One of the biggest misconceptions, in my opinion, about Twitter, is the fact that you should follow back everyone that follows you. Worse than that is to use one of those services that does it for you and DMs people back with auto-DMs.

There are always two kinds of reactions when a new episode of True Blood ends:

The first is: “I’m never watching this like this again. I will just wait for the season to end and then see them all in a row. Can’t take so much suspense, thrill and adrenaline all in one.”

The second involves a secret plan to sneak into the Pentagon and get hold of that time machine, that everyone knows that they have, in order to time jump into the future, watch all episodes and then go and cacth Lost’s new season.

The talk at Twitter today was “Oh god, I lost 20 followers“; “20?! I lost 700 followers, how am I going to get them back now?“; “Just lost 345 followers. Twitter is acting up on me again #fail!” and so on, and so on.

Funny enough, the higher number of followers any given user had, bigger was their silence about loosing followers: Twitter vanity doesn’t allow it, I guess.
